As the gateway to the Pelorus and Kenepuru Sounds, Havelock is a triving little seaport township with the offical title of "Greenshell Mussel Capital of the World". There are now more Greenshell Mussels processed through this port than anywhere else in the world.
Havelock's main street is simply fantastic for lovers of arts, crafts, culture and cafes. Its a small town with a big heart and you will find all sorts of friendly and creative people. Make sure you have a look around the marina area, along with lots of recreational boats you will see the Mussel Industry in action with lots of Mussel harvesting, seeding and work boats. There is also a fantastic little cafe right on the waterfront, the Slip Inn Cafe is open all day from early till late serving of course - fresh Greenshell Mussels. A visit to Havelock wouldn't be complete without a trip out to see the Mussel farms and taste really fresh steamed mussels.
