Meet and greet at Christchurch Airport by a guide and coach from Marlborough Travel. Depart Christchurch for the drive to Marlborough. Travelling through the fabulous Waipara wine region, the Kaikoura coastal township, and into the Marlborough Wine region. Arrive at Marlborough Vintners Hotel (MVH), a fabulous property situated right in the heart of the wine region. After breakfast the group will be collected for a day of wonderful wine and food experiences. Visit iconic wineries such as Wither Hills, Allan Scott's and Cloudy Bay along with a nice selection of smaller wineries. Today you will be treated to stunning reserve grade wines, meet with winemakers and viticulturalists, learn the secrets behind the scenes. Each visit will be hosted by the winery involved as a private group so you can be assured of a great experience. Then relax and indulge in a fabulous wine and food match lunch.
After a nice leisurely breakfast the group will be collected and head through to the small seaport township of Havelock. Havelock is the main gateway into the Pelorus and Kenepuru Sounds, two of the main Sounds that make up the Marlborough Sounds. Havelock also holds the title of Greenshell Mussel Capital of the world. On arrival in Havelock board the Marlborough Travel launch Odyssea for a cruise out into the Marlborough Sounds. Enjoy the tranquility of the area, learn some of the history and indulge in local seafoods and local wines during this stunning lunch cruise.
Time to explore some more of the Marlborough wine region. After breakfast depart MVH by coach for a morning of contrast between the boutique winery and the big player!! Start the day with a visit to Forrest Estate winery. This boutique family owned winery has recently turned 20 years old and is still owned and managed by the original owners. Arrive Montana Brancott Estate for the guided tour through the winery where the group will see world firsts, such as the 60,000 litre tipping tanks, and the enormous barrel rooms. After the tour enjoy tasting a range of Montana reserve wines and a wonderful "tasting plate" wine and food match for lunch. After lunch its time for something different with a visit to the Omaka Aviation Centre. This is one of the largest privately owned collections of World War 1 Aircraft anywhere in the world. Each of the displays has been carefully created by Peter Jackson and the talented team at Weta Workshop (The team behind Lord of the Rings).
Tonight enjoy a showcase dinner on site at MVH. You will be joined by a local winemaker who will talk the group through the dinner introducing each wine. This showcase wine and food match dinner will be the perfect finale to your Marlborough experience.
Enjoy an early breakfast in your room before an early check out and depart by coach down the Pacific Coast to Kaikoura where we will stop for lunch. During the afternoon enjoy a visit to the Waipara wine region before arriving at Christchurch airport mid-afternoon (Time to suit), and then a drop off at Christchurch Accommodation for those who are staying on.
